I decided to retrieve my dress (see previous post) from the bin and salvage it. Your comments on waste and my own frugalness dictated my actions.
I ripped out the zip and sewed up the seam. I knew there would be enough room for me to just wriggle into it. I then made some mock fastenings from some spare material to draw attention away from the lack of pattern. Popped on some buttons and Bob's your uncle - just like a born again Christian the dress is saved.
I even put a couple of matching buttons on the front. And now I'm pleased with the result. Something I can wear.
Success, snatched from the jaws of defeat!

Oh well done! I'm clapping my hands that you rescued it. It looks fantastic.

Gorgeous! I love the buttons at the neck. I usually find the necklines on tunics a bit gapey if I make them large enough to fit other parts of me - ahem - but I think your buttony pleated neckline could work miracles!
