Look what greeted me in the back porch first thing in yesterday morning when I went to put on my walking boots - a toad.
At least I think it's a toad. It was quite slow moving and was walking rather than hopping. I've done a little research and discovered that toads can live to be 40 years old if they are not squashed by a car or gobbled up by a hedgehog or snake! This looks to be quite a young one.
It's quite normal for Norfolk to be invaded by wildlife.Recently when one of my daughters returned from university she put as her facebook status - "you know you're back in Norfolk when you come home to a bird trapped down the chimney" - but that's another story.

We used to live very close to some large ponds and on occasions were invaded by toads. One evening there was rustling in the children's toy box, ugh! a toad had climbed in. On another occasion I speared one with a garden fork, never had a toad in the boot though thankfully. We still live in the same area but further away from the ponds, luckily no toads here, drier ground I expect.

Pretty normal for Suffolk too ;-)

What a privilege, I haven't seen one for ages. As Miriam did, my ex-husband speared one whilst in the compost heap and to this day he feels guilty about it.
My OH gets starlings in his chimney.

I was cleaning out flowerpots in the greenhouse once and was trying to break up clumps of old dry compost.... of course one of those 'clumps' was a toad...
