At the weekend I made the first of the orders I took at Aldborough Creative for some hats. I do apologise that this is turning into a hat blog but that seems to be where I am heading (ha ha) at the moment.
This one is using a Merino blend and some dyed Gotland curls from Sara's Texture Crafts. I just hope my buyer likes it. She can always trim the curls if she finds them too extrovert. I'll let you know what she says.
Part of the ethos of Aldborough Creative is that the participating artists are meant to be working at something while person-ing their stall. It's a bit difficult with wet-felting as it's so messy. I know some people manage it, Maria, but not me.
Instead I decided to make a pill box hat from an early scarf that had turned out far too short to be a scarf! Actually I spend all the morning dithering about whether to cut it or not. Loads of visitors said no don't cut into it. But it really was no use as it was.
Finally with Heather's help I made the decision and went for it. And here's the result.
It's very different from my other hats but it really works and is another design to add to my arsenal.
It is for sale for £25 if anyone is feeling adventurous.
Aldborough Creative has been and gone and it's back to the day job. But I had a great weekend and the good news is I sold all my hats. I even have orders for more. And I sold jewellery as well just when I thought I was going to give up making it.
Dave thought I was mad making so many hats but I'm glad I did. I wish now I'd done more but my hands were getting red raw.
Interestingly the scarves didn't sell so well. I only sold one out of five. Below is what my stall looked like once I'd set it all up. I took it in the evening just before the private view so all my stock is on display.
We were really busy Saturday night and all day Sunday. It was so nice chatting to everyone. And Gill from DosieRosie braved in through the morning fog to come and see me. There were so many people about I didn't get so much chance to talk to her as I would have liked. Sorry Gill, let's meet up for coffee soon.
It was so nice selling out of hats because this evening I could place an order with Sara's Texture Crafts for lots more luscious wool.
As work progresses ever onward making stock for Aldborough Creative this Sunday - 2oth November, I get into more and more of a felting frenzy.
This was my kitchen last Sunday. Cooking was out of the window. I had to commandeer the length of the work surface to lay out the fibres to make a longer length scarf.
Luckily I finished it off in time to do some cooking in the evening, so we didn't starve.
But I'm in the same situation again now. I must get the latest scarf shrunk down to size so we can eat - I'm getting hungry.

This one is from Shetland wool with silk and fabric pieces. My daughter thinks I'm mad photographing the head on top of a evergreen bush. So tomorrow, weather permitting, I'll try do take a more sensible shot of some more hats. Below is another view to show the top.
I'm still making things for Aldborough Creative. Started two more pairs of earrings today and had to restring a couple of necklaces after an incident with superglue!
I want to stop - but I just have one more scarf in my head I want to make. And oh so many things to finish off.
Once again thank you for your comments. They are giving me the confidence that I can actually do this show, but I wish I had one of you to help me put up the display.
Thank you for all your comments on my last post. They are really helpful. I think I can see my way through it all. I'll raid the garden for twigs at the weekend and try out a display.
I also invested in two polystyrene heads for my hats. I'm really pleased with how they show off the hats I just wish I could justify buying more heads. Here are a couple of shots of one head with a hat. I'll show off some more over the next few days.
At the weekend I knuckled down to making some scarves as well and managed to do three. I am beginning to wonder though, why do we put ourselves through this?
