A departure from crafting and decluttering today. A friend of mine alerted me to this post on Captain Ahab's Watery Tales - Aldborough Mill, Norfolk. I walk my dog around the back of the mill nearly every morning and it's nice to see a bit of local history has hit the worldwide web.
In fact one of my friends now lives in the converted mill which does have a lot of the original features intact. Ahab makes it sound a bit of a brutal conversion, but it isn't.
True there's no waterwheel, no jolly miller and no smell of flour. But the building has retained its character and is in a much sought after location. The stream, the Scarrowbeck, now runs behind the building and here I've pictured the view looking upstream away from the mill.
Ahab also says it's not navigable nowadays, not by narrowboat maybe, but I can assure him that many a small boy (my son included) has shot down the Scarrowbeck in a blow-up canoe when it is in full spate.
Another friend is actually one of the Cooke descendants mentioned in the article. He is also currently rehearsing in the village panto (of which more later) with me - oh yes he is!!
Hmm. Your link doesn't work... or is it just me?

The panto is still to come? I though they happened before Christmas and..... thats behind you! ;-)
My mother used to paddle in Scarrow Beck with David Cooke - one of her fondest childhood memories.
I do like the mill conversion, but there isnt much left of the 1950's incarnation (which is no great archetectural loss).
I will bet that yor blog has been unusually busy these last two days.
Andy.
